Well, here we are, a brand new story for your reading pleasure, but not just the story, there's a brand new piece of art as well. It's pretty much 100% fan service, so I hope you like it.
Still, even with that there is other things that need to be said. This is the last story in the series. As of this posting "A Fox in the Works" is officially over. There's a lot that could be said at this point, but I'm not really sure I can say it. It's been fun to write the series, even as it went in all sort of directions. I've been writing it for twelve years now and I think the time has come to said it's done.
I'll probably still write the occasional story in this world, there are still a few loose ends to wrap up, but that's for later. For now it's the end. I hope you enjoyed read the series as much as I did writing it. Thanks for the Memories.
02/06/2008
Here's the second and last part of It's Not My Time to Go and the last part of the Die Another Day sequence. I hope you guys enjoyed it.
There's more to come for AFiW in the next month. At least three more stories are waiting in the wings with more being worked on as we speak.
It's going to get far more interesting from here on out, so hang on.
01/24/2008
Here we are, the first part of a brand new two parter and the beginning of the end for the current storyline. Hope you enjoy it, things are getting pretty crazy this time.
I'm still working on the collection idea. There seems to be some interest in it so I might just give it a go. To that end I'm working on trying to have all of Year One edited in the next few months.
Even so, I want to say this again. If there isn't enough interest express in doing this collection in may not happen, so if you want to see it you need to let me know.
01/07/2008
It's a new year and I still have three more stories to post for you. This is going to be a busy month when it comes to the series. I hope it keeps up.
I have a lot planed for the rest of year five, and even a small spin of series that I hope to write next year. If all goes well this should be a fairly big year for the series, but I've said that before. Still, keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best!
For something different, it looks like that if I work at it I could have a collection of Year One done by the end of the year. This would have every story, probably some over all comments about the stories and the arcs and maybe even a special story for the print edition only.
The real question is, if I did this who would be interested. I can't stress this enough, if there isn't any interest this project won't happen. Even if your sort of interested please say something. It's to much work to spend if no one is really interested.
12/31/2007
One last story to ring out the new year, and there will be another one in a day or two (I'm nothing if not quick on my turn around). This is the first part of the middle story of what I generally called the "Die Another Day" sequence. It worked better then one then one large story.
12/17/2007
The hiatus is over! At least for a short while, for now I have the first of four new stories that I will be posting over the next month or two. They are pretty big when it comes to the over all plot, so I hope you enjoy them.
If all goes well 2008 should be a big year for the series (of course I've said that about how many years). I'm not going to say exactly what I have planed, but I do have plans. I just need to cross my fingers and hope for the best.
04/12/2007
Here we are, back with a brand new story for a brand new year, but this time there is a little twist. It's not part of the normal course of events, in fact it's set many years after the end of the series and features an adult Adric and Romana.
That's not all. There are a two new pictures in the art section that go with the story. These are a pair of really fantastic pictures that really show off the main characters. I think you'll like them.
The rest of this year is going to be interesting. If all goes well I will be completing the series some time before the end of the year. Year Five is planed out to the very last story, and I know exactly where I'm going to be taking it. I hope to bring the series to an end sometime this year.
This will not be the end of A Fox in the Works, far from it. There are many more stories to tell about my alter-ego, and I'm sure I will return to him many times in the future.
12/26/2006
Well, with my novel written I have more free time to work on the series, hopefully that means well be seeing more stories in the near future. The next one is a large one, and that should start making the editorial rounds soon. If all goes well it should be up some time in the next month or two. At least the first part of it.
06/27/2006
I'm back after an unintended break! I have three more stories in the system (one of which is a fairly large one) after that I'll be on another break to work on a novel. There will be a few edits of the older stories coming down the line, and maybe even a few surprises.
Naturally the novel is going to be a bit of a high priority, but I'll be trying to work in one or two more stories in by the end of the year.
I'm also entertaining a few interesting ideas for something to do around the end of the year, I'll be keeping you update right here and in the forum!
03/07/2006: Ursa Major Awards
This is going to be an odd request, more so in that it's coming from me. Those of you who know me know that I'm not comfortable promoting myself in any major way. It's hard for me to go out and ask people to go out of there way for me.
For once I'm going to make an exception, about the Ursa Major Awards. For those of you who don't know it's awards for furry stories, movies or comics. The nominations for 2005 close in only a few short weeks, and I would like to try to get A Fox in the Works nominated.
Now there are only a few places where the series would qualify. Anthropomorphic Dramatic Short Work or Series for the series as a whole Anthropomorphic Novel for Singularity Collapse and Anthropomorphic Short Fiction for any of the short stories between Fallen Stars and Loose Edges.
I'm not asking to stuff the ballet box, or anything else like that. I'm just asking that if you like the series, please nominate it in whole or in part for this years awards. Everyone always says it's just an honor to be nominated, and having never been I think it would be.
02/25/2006: In other news
Well we have a new story for your enjoyment, and hopefully more will be following in quick succession. Last year was a good year for the series, and I hope this year will at least match it in the number of stories posted.
Also, we have a few new stories edits put up. It's a slow process as there are just so many stories to do and it's frankly overwhelming, but the other stories need the polishing, and nothing major will be changing so you don't have to go back and reread them all.
Lastly I've made a small change to the file names, but it really only effects those who download the archives. I've started to add the numbering order to the stories and to there file name, that will keep the files in order if you keep your own copies. All new story will have the numbers, and they will be retroactivity to the older stories as they are edited.
12/25/2005: Tenth Anniversary
Well today marks the Tenth Anniversary of A Fox in the Works, and it's still updating, and will update again tomorrow ;). That's longer then many online comics have existed, and out ranks most other furry stories series, though it's not the oldest on record (but it's in the top five).
I started it back in 1995 on a lark, a one shot story that was meant to just be a bit of fun and to get my writing unstuck from where it had been since that October. It became a series after one of my friends wanted to read more, and now here I am, half a million words latter and I'm still going at it.
Over the years the quality of the writing has improved from very amateurish to something far more polished and professional. That's partly thanks to my two editors Lys and Hikaru, they've fixed more problems then you would care to know about, and without them my quality would be significantly lower.
I hope to do something special this year in celebration of milestone, so keep your eyes open. You never know what might happen.
07/12/2005: Number 150!
Celebration time! This is the 150th story in A Fox in the Works (254th if you count the chapters). That's a big number, the word count is hovering somewhere around six-hundred thousand words, and the total file size is about 3600 kilobytes. This is pretty dang impressive, by one count this makes it the #5 largest furry story on-line.
Not that I will make the #1 spot, that's firmly held by the The Journal Entries. Held by a large enough margin that it's doubtful I would be a serious contender for the crown. I may sneak up into 4th, but that spot is currently held by Identity Crisis, and I doubt Hikaru will make it easy on me.
As this is a big day I want to hear from you! That's right, if your reading my stories I want you to post, e-mail, or message me! This is the time everyone, it's time to make yourself heard!
04/23/2005
Not much to say about this, other then to say that we are going to take a short breather before some new excitement begins.
07/01/2005
Posting wise this year so far hasn't quite gone off as planed. Due to things outside of my control, I've not been able to post a new AFiW for quite a bit longer then I had planed. If all goes well a pause like this will not happen again (of course how often have I said that?).
Still, keeping all of that in mind, I've posted more stories this year then I have in years! The count to date is at Twenty stories, not all of them AFiW (though most were). I hope I can keep up a pace like that for the rest of the year.
04/07/2005
And thus concludes Singularity Collapse, only in about four months of posting time. Not bad actually, considering it took two years for me to complete Mirror Cycle.
The story is checking in as the second longest story in the series, sitting at around 64,000 words in length. That's a short novel, about 250 pages long, give or take. I wrote most of the story in November of 2004, and wrapped it up it the following months .
What you can expect for the future of A Fox in the Works? Well hopefully new story will be posted every two or three weeks, depending on real life. I'm write the series around other stories, including stories I'm trying to sell, so it's not my biggest priority, but it is my second priority.
Thanks for sticking around for the whole story, I hope everyone enjoyed it.
03/21/2005: Unplanned delays
I must have a horrible reputation for being on schedule, though this time it was only partly my own fault. The good new is not only is the story written, but two more stories are waiting for me to edit them.
Things should be picking up in a bit, so check back soon for still more stories!
02/27/2005
Well, this is it, Chapter Ten has been posted, and it's a big one. But not big in a good way, big in a rather bad way. This is the time when things go very wrong for are heroes.
To be honest I've been nervous about posting this part. In fact, when I was writing it I was debating if this would even happen. Needless to say it actually did.
This is one I would like to hear some comments on. Feel free to post to the Forum or the Fan Club.
02/20/2005: Hopefully the last delay for this story!
Wow, that was a lot longer then I planned it to be, but some times that is how the world works. Between being sick and missing my editor online I've managed to single handedly delay this story by two weeks.
I guess it had to happen sooner or later.
So where are we? Well the story is finished (and has been for at least a month) it just needs to be edited, as the edits come in I'll be posting the story, so it means that I maybe posting more often then ever three days, but hopefully there will be no further delays in the story.
As always don't forget about the Fan Club and the Forum! I like to hear from the fans, it's how I know you are out there.
02/02/2005: A slight delay while I get out the duct tape
It's been a bit longer then I would like since my last story, but there is good reason for this. I started to post Chapter Eight a few days ago, only to discover that VCL was in the hands of a minor crisis. Apparently the main server was being closed, and all traffic was being redirected to the US server, but the upload tools are still on the old server. This means there is a four to ten hour delay from when I upload the files to when they can be accessed.
I was planning to post the story over the weekend... but well I had company, and turned out to be rather distracted from being on-line at all, so I never really got around to the computer at all.
Now I'm free, but I've decided to take the delay to tweak the web site just a little bit. Instead of keeping the stories on the VCL only, I've moved it to be my mirror of my stories. For now on all the stories will be hosted on my site, the way I should have been doing it from day one.
After this the posting should be back on track, or as well as on track as it ever is.
As always don't forget about the Fan Club and the Forum! I like to hear from the fans, it's how I know you are out there.
01/12/2005: Ten days and Four Chapters down
Here we are on the 12th of January, and things are going according to plan (well, give or take, nothing is ever perfect). Chapter Five is already prepped for posting, and all Chapters up to Nine are currently being edited.
The story itself is finished on my side, all Sixteen Chapters of it, and it clocks in as around the second longest story of the series. It's may also get more then a few people mad at me, we'll have to see.
By now I'm sure you have noticed that I have changed some of the style that I write the series in. Many of the changes are small, style issues and formatting primary. The biggest changed is that I've started to use Third Person where appropriate. There will be more of that as Year Five progresses.
I hope that the writing of Year Five will go fast this time around. I have the whole year plotted out, at least in outline, I know all the stories that will make up the year, and I plan (starting next week) to work out more formal outlines for the next few stories. I'm going to hit the ground running this year, so don't stop coming back!
As always don't forget about the Fan Club and the Forum! I like to hear from the fans, it's how I know you are out there.
01/02/2005: A new year, and a new story!
Here it is, the moment you have all been waiting for, there has been a new "A Fox in the Works" posted today!
This is the first part of a fairly long story, and if all goes well I will be posting a new part ever two to three days, so keep an eye on the sight to see what's going to happen.
Hang on guys, this year is going to be a bit of a ride!
12/25/2004: The start of the 9th year
Well, not only is today Christmas, but it is also the 9th anniversary of "A Fox in the Works" as the first story was posted in the early hours of this day in 1995. It also means that I'm a year away from the 10 anniversary.
So what's in store for this year? For one we have the start of year five (four years late), and hopefully the end of it as well. I am going to try to get the whole of the last year in 2005, with some help from my editors.
After that, who know. I would love to do something big for the 10th year. It would be cool to do something in a different medium, maybe a comic or an audio drama (anyone from 'Big Finish' reading this, if so hint-hint ;). The problem is I don't know anyone who actually does that sort of thing.
I really want to make the 10th anniversary a big one, which means I have to start now. It would be kind of cool to hold a party of something at a furry con in 2006, we'll have to see.
To all my fans, thank you for readership! It means the world to me!
10/26/2004:
The posting of An Empty Chair, marks the end of Year Four of A Fox in the Works, admittedly it's a few years late, but that some times can not be helped. In this case I hope it was worth the wait.
I'll be starting Year Five in less then a week, and the first story is doing to be a big one. It's going to be one of those stories that will change nearly everything about the series. Hang on, I'm about to turn everything upside down!
My hope is to have the first story of the year, which will be a big one, posted by the end of January, if all goes well I will be posting one part a day beginning on the 1st of January 2005. So keep an eye out, as I'll also be putting a few other notes around here as well.
Most of the series (give or take) can be found as a PDF file at The Raccoons Bookshelf.
As always don't forget about the Fan Club and the Forum! I like to hear from the fans, it's how I know you are out there.
07/06/2004:
Weaving the Web, the first of the last two stories for Year Four is now up for your reading enjoyment! The last story should be posted some time in the next ten days.
I'm still working on the plans for Year Five, as once I post the last story I will but everything aside until mid October (why October, that will became clear on my next post), but don't worry, I'll be posting the occasional teaser.
Most of the series (give or take) can be found as a PDF file at The Raccoons Bookshelf.

06/26/2004:
Event Horizon, the second of the last four stories in Year Four has just been posted. The third story should be posted some time next week if all goes well.
In many ways I'm looking forward to the hiatus, with so much else going on it will give me a chance to try my hand at other stories. Maybe even get published, but I'm not holding my breath.
The plans for Year Five are coming along, and this time I'm doing the same sort of planning I did for the last quarter of Year Four. It's because of that planning that I've been able to post nine stories so far this year. That's more then I've posted in any year since 2000.
As always don't forget about the Fan Club and the Forum! I like to hear from the fans, it's how I know you are out there.
06/21/2004:
The first of the last four stories in Year Four has been posted, the second one will follow an the end of the week. The rest should come soon, but not to long if I can help it!
Once Year Four is finished I'm going to take a hiatus for the rest of the year. I've been doing this for eight and a half years now, and I could use the break.
Of course Year Five will start off with a bang at the start of 2005!
As always don't forget about the Fan Club and the Forum! I like to hear from the fans, it's how I know you are out there.
06/07/2004:
There's a brand new page layout, rearranging everything so it should be a little easier to get around and find the stories.
The stories are now also archived an Raccoon's bookshelf as PDF files.
As always don't forget about the Fan Club and the Forum! I like to hear from the fans, it's how I know you are out there.
04/29/2004:
Once more we have a new story for your enjoyment, and with only five stories left in Year Four we are rapidly closing in on a few big things.
Of course the stories are nearly five years behind where I wanted them to be. I should have been done by now, instead I'm fighting to keep up, at least I'm posting more often, which is a big change.
As always don't forget about the Fan Club and the Forum! I like to hear from the fans, it's how I know you are out there.
04/22/2004:
Here we are, a new month (well, new old month) and a new story. Things are getting pretty interesting in the series, and the next few stories will be changing all of the rules.
If all goes well, I should have Year Four done by some time in June, cross your fingers folks, after that I'll be having some big news about the series as a whole.
Don't forget there is both the Fan Club mailing list, and the Forum! If you like this story, or the series, please post something, it's how I know you are out there.
03/18/2004:
Been a few weeks since the last story post. It wasn't for lack of story to post, but a combination of allergies, a small flu, and moving.
I have a couple more in queue, so there will be more soon!
02/03/2004:
The big news is that there is now a forum for A Fox in the Works on Planet Furry. This doesn't replace the Fan Club, which for all of my writing, but give a place for AFiW itself.
Every one have fun!
12/30/2003:
Been a few months since the last update, but their is a reason. I've been focusing all my writing time on a novel, which is now done, and about to be fully rewritten. If all goes well (and one can hope) it could be published some time in 2004.
Just a few days ago, the series hit 8 years old. Really impressive as such things go, lets see if I can get it finished before the 10th anniversary!
For now, Wake Up Call has been added to the page. This is a fun one, and a bit hard to write as one of the characters who has been in the series from day one, appears for the first time.
09/23/2003:
The fourth and final part of Small Changes has been posted. It wrapped up the story, which was, if you couldn't tell, done as a style homage to Doctor Who. Hope you have enjoyed it.
I'll be at Conifur this weekend. If you see me (hard to miss, I'll be wearing a couple con badges) come over and say hi!
01/29/2003:
There is now an "A Fox in the Works" Fan Club on Yahoo Groups. It's the new place for all story announcements and discussion about the series and stories within. If you don't want to mess with signing up with yahoo, you can also join by sending an e-mail to afiwfanclub-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
For those of you who don't know. I have a new web sight up at http://www.chaos-keep.com/ This is now my main web sight. It will be the first one updated for now on.
Here we are, a new AFiW. Closer to being on schedule then I have been on late. I hope to have another posted in a week or two. We will have to see.
For those of you who don't know. I have a new web sight up at http://www.chaos-keep.com/ This is now my main web sight. It will be the first one updated for now on.
New story up, add I've added a donate button for tips.
New story up, that's all. :)
Welcome AFiW fans!
A new story posted, a new schedule to try to meet, and a lot more going on. Keep your eyes open, things are about to get interesting.
Mirror Cycle has been finished! Chapter 18 has been posted to the Mirror Cycle page. And the whole story can be found in Year Four .
That's not the only thing, a new story, Repercussions, has been added to Year Four as of 12/25/2001.
Told you I would get it done on time. :)
Chapter 17 of Mirror Cycle is now up. It is the second to last chapter of the story.
The last chapter is 90% done, and is being wraped up now. I hope to have it posted in about ten days or so, hopefully less.
There will be a new AFiW story posted on December 25th. On the 6th Anniversary of the series.
Well, after a nice long break, Chapter 16 is up for you to read. It's a bit of a twist, so enjoy it!
I hope, in the future, to try and get a new chapter ever two or three weeks. Going to hold myself as tight as I can to the schedule. I really want to get Mirror Cycle done before it's becomes's two year late! :)
Oh yes, because of a total lack of interest, the AFiW store on CafePress has been closed. I suspect I will never offer merchandise like that again.
Well, late, as normal, but Chapter 15 has been posted. So go and take a look, it's good clean fun!
There's going to be a slight pause before the next story is posted, but I hope to have it done in less then a month this time. Perhaps a second AFiW story will follow soon after.
No need to vote anymore for the series. Global 100 has died, so nothing to vote it against. But we did make it up to the mid 30s! It was fun while it last though, and thank you everyone for your votes!
And lastly, would you like an AFiW T-shirt, or mouse pad, maybe a mug? Guess what, I'm offering them now from cafepress.com! Just head to the A Fox in the Works Store and take a look at what's there. They are for sale, and I get money from it (past the company's expenses, but I don't mind) so go, take a look, enjoy! First one to send me a picture of them with some of the merchandise get's a cameo in the series!
The next chapter of Mirror Cycle has been posted!
No new story to announce yet, but other things are new!
First off, there are two new, quite fantastic pictures in the Art section of the page. Both with Oriana and I, and are very good! The one my Ms. Smith is one of my favorite for AFiW so far, so check it out!
The next big thing, following in the very smart lead of Hikaru creator and writer of Identity Crisis, which if you like my stuff, you'll like as well. I've started up an on-line journal (AKA Web Log). This will have comments on the current stories, what's coming up in life in general, and many other things. Including news on AFiW, more then just what appears on the page!
As for Chapter 14 of Mirror Cycle, expect it by Friday the 27th of April.
No, I'm not dead YET! Not for lack of trying it seems, but I am not dead and nor is AFiW! In fact, things are getting better then ever! The page is getting a bit of a new layout, not to mention some new stories in the works! Oh yes, things are going to get interesting in the next few months!
Now, on the subject of fan fiction. It has come to my attention that someone has done a "lemon" fan fiction of AFiW! (For those of you who don't know, Lemon is a term from anime for an adult fan fiction story of something that's not adult). I have to say, I am flattered by this! This is a great thing to have happen to my stories!
Does anyone have a copy of this, or is the writer out there, if so, please drop me a copy! I've only heard about this, not yet read it! :)
In other news, the ftp://agii.solluna.org archive is now no more. Slipping away into the mist, it leaves me with only the http://velar.ctrl-c.liu.se archive for the stories. The links have been adjusted to reflect this.
